Migrate from Goodbudget to Expense Trail

Honest guide: export from Goodbudget, import to Expense Trail, and what does not transfer.

Last updated on

Switching from Goodbudget to Expense Trail is manual-first: export what you can, map wallets and categories, and accept that bank sync and some automations will not transfer.

Export from Goodbudget

  1. Use Goodbudget's export or CSV download (format changes—verify before import).
  2. Note which columns map to date, amount, category, wallet/account, payee.

Import into Expense Trail

Create wallets that match how you think about money (Checking, Cash, Card)—not every Goodbudget account name must match.

Import via Data import or paste from spreadsheet using migrate from spreadsheet.

Re-create budgets and goals; they rarely import automatically.

For splits, re-add buddies and groups—IOU history may need manual opening balances.
